For an attempted rebrand, Taylor Swift’s new single “Look What You Made Me Do” is pretty unsurprising. (Like why is the “new Taylor” still rehashing old feuds?) Still, there’s a part of the song that is genuinely astounding — Taylor Swift, age 27, has a personalized voicemail greeting.
And, presumably, her voice mailbox is not full! Amazing.
The voicemail-greeting-heard-’round-the-world, of course, is the wildly subtle, “I’m sorry. The old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, ’cause she’s dead.”
This message certainly did not come standard with Taylor’s iPhone (she has an iPhone), so clearly she had to record it herself. This means she had to pull up her Phone app, press Voicemail, press Greeting in the top left corner, and record her personalized message from there.
Perhaps you also have a voicemail greeting and are thus unsurprised by this news. If so, my sincere congratulations — unlike me, you have probably never failed to confirm a dentist appointment.
But perhaps you are like me, who has not recorded a voicemail greeting since 2008, when you accidentally snorted during yours then couldn’t figure out how to delete it.
My theory is this: if someone really wants to leave me a voicemail, they can slog through a robot slowly listing each numeral of my phone number before they do so.
Anyway, do you guys think new Taylor Swift has a ringback tone?
